Who We Are

Our Roots

Since 1974 the Sons of AMVETS mission has been to support our nation’s veterans, their families and communities through our programs. The National Sons of AMVETS was chartered in 1983 to further the cause of the organization.

Honoring and remembering our veterans and their sacrifice is part of our mission. We will not forget those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms. We continue to show our appreciation to Goldstar families through our Honor & Remember program. Throughout the year our Honor Guard along with Veterans and the AMVETS  family pay respect to those who served by placing wreathes at the memorial on the national mall in DC.

And we are thankful for the many who have been true champions of the Sons of AMVETS. We recognize those who support the Sons of AMVETS in completing our mission.

Annually the Aid and Support Crystal Eagle is given to an individual who assist and promotes the Sons of AMVETS to better serve our veterans and communities.

The Sons Of AMVETS Preamble

We, the Sons of AMVETS (American Veterans), fully understand our responsibility to our parents, community, State, and Nation, associate ourselves for the following reasons

  • To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America;

  • To safeguard the principles of freedom, liberty, and justice for all;

  • To promote the cause of peace and goodwill among nations;

  • To maintain the freedom of our country;

  • To preserve the fundamentals of Democracy;

  • To perpetuate the friendships and associations of the AMVETS organization; and

  • To dedicate ourselves to the cause of mutual assistance....this by the grace of God.

What We Do

The Sons of AMVETS sponsor various community projects. These include Americanism,
legislative and scholarship programs, food drives and many others. We continue to support our
veterans through our ongoing programs.

LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM:

Our legislative program and working to ensure our veterans receive the benefits they deserve is a top priority. March of 2014, every Senate and House office received the AMVETS legislative priorities, including 271 face to face meetings.

"The Sons have broken down barriers, allowing me to meet with congressmen."

National AMVETS Commander John Mitchell 2013-14

Carrying on this important service that began with the official legislation in 2014, The Sons of AmVets Squadron 127 is working to raise money for service dogs placed with our local veterans through the WarHawk service dogs organization.

Assisting AMVETS Post:

A Sons of AMVETS Squadron supports their local AMVETS Post to
increase its membership and presence in the community. It allows more members of your family to become members of the AMVETS family. The Sons adds a new vitality to a Post's activities; and adds many more new activities to what the post has to
offer its membership.

The Sons of AmVets Squardron 127 is a proud supporter of the Honor the Fallen annual fundraising efforts. We proudly serve beside the members of the Vacho-Lybert AmVets Post 127.

Serving Veterans and Community:

Across the country sons are serving veterans by assisting with home maintenance, driving VETERANS to VA centers, providing clothing, blankets, personal items and gifts to veterans residing in nursing and veterans homes. And each year scholarships are
awarded at the local, state and national levels to assist
students with their education.

This year one of our  Sons, Mark Hanson, had the honor of accompanying a local Veteran, Bob Reidner in the Honor Flight to Washington DC. Bob and his wife expressed  their thanks for this incredible opportunity to be honored for his service in Viet Nam.

Every dollar we receive is used to increase our ability to serve veterans and their communities in Rusk County. Because of people like you who, care about our community, we are able to raise funds to provide scholarships to local high school graduates, honor our veterans graves by maintaining the flags and wreaths each season and work alongside the AmVets to support the Honor the Fallen rides each year.
